FOCUS ON
High-Solids coatings and the rheology challenge
As coatings move toward high-solids technologies, rheology becomes a critical enabler for both applicators and formulators. With less dilution and thicker paints, high-solids systems must still offer easy application, fast drying with less solvent, and the ability to build high film thickness for performance and process efficiency.
These requirements create new rheological challenges: preventing settling, ensuring strong shear-thinning for spray or brush application, and securing rapid viscosity recovery for sag resistance and good edge coverage. Arkema addresses these needs with its Crayvallac® rheology, flow and levelling additives, combined with deep rheology expertise and characterization across the full coating lifespan. By tailoring antisettling behavior, flow and viscosity recovery, Arkema helps paint makers optimize manufacturing, improve application consistency, and extend coating service life in high-solids formulations.
