A complete wood finishing set of solutions

Whether the goal is high aesthetic performance, soft-touch sensory effects, improved durability, enhanced throughput or reduced VOCs, Arkema's combined resin and additive technologies provide formulators with an integrated solution to upgrade industrial wood finishing across heat-curing, UV-curing and Excimer UV processing environments.

Heat-curing systems for furniture, joinery and interior wood

Heat-curing technologies remain central to industrial wood finishing due to their versatility, competitive cost and ability to deliver superior appearance.

Arkema supports furniture, cabinetry, joinery and MDF applications through its SYNOLAC® and UNITHANE® alkyd offer, enabling clear and pigmented lacquers, sealers, basecoats and topcoats with fast drying, high clarity, smooth levelling, efficient pore wetting and balanced sandability and block resistance. Modified grades offer additional durability, hardness, non-yellowing and 2K crosslinking compatibility for more demanding decorative and functional systems.

For formulators targeting low-VOC solutions, Arkema complements solventborne technologies with ENCOR® and SYNAQUA® waterborne binders suited for stain-blocking primers, sandable fillers, transparent stains and dual-cure topcoats without compromising aesthetics or productivity. Representative technologies include SYNOLAC® 926 X 60 for fast-drying furniture lacquers, UNITHANE® 655 WDA 55 for enhanced durability in industrial finishes, and ENCOR® 2710 / 2711 for stain-blocking primers and MDF fillers, while SYNAQUA® 4804 and related grades enable compliant topcoat formulations.

Functional additives for premium wood surfaces

Arkema strengthens its wood coatings offer with a comprehensive range of CRAYVALLAC® functional additives engineered to elevate the visual and sensory quality of wood coatings while simplifying industrial processing. Rheology modifiers provide controlled viscosity, anti-settling and sag resistance for smoother application and clean film builds. Surface modifiers tune matting, slip, scratch and stain resistance to achieve modern ultra-matte or soft-touch effects that withstand everyday wear. Flow and levelling agents enhance DOI, eliminate defects and improve substrate wetting for a flawless, furniture-grade finish.

These tailored additive solutions enable formulators to deliver premium aesthetics, improve productivity on finishing lines and meet rising expectations for durability and surface design in furniture, joinery and interior wood. Key CRAYVALLAC® solutions for wood include:

  • PA3 S 12 — high-efficiency rheology modifier for solventborne systems

  • LA-350 — urethane rheology modifier for post-addition adjustment
  • WN-1135 / WN-1495 — modified PP powders for slip and scratch resistance
  • WF-3200 / WN-1875 — high-performance matting and abrasion resistance
  • FLOW-200 / FLOW-100 — flow and levelling agents for enhanced surface appearance

UV-curable systems for high throughput and premium surface performance

UV-curing solutions enable industrial wood finishers to combine instant curing, zero-VOC potential and high mechanical performance.

Wood Coatings

In industrial wood finishing, UV/LED/EB-cured coatings deliver the fast processing, high surface quality and durability demanded in furniture components, decorative wood panels, engineered wood or flooring. Sartomer® oligomers and monomers enable premium finishes with excellent clarity, gloss and DOI, while improving stain, scratch and abrasion resistance versus conventional heat-cure alternatives. These systems support multi-layer architectures (sealers, basecoats, topcoats) and can be combined with LED or electron-beam curing for reduced energy demand and faster throughput on high-speed finishing lines.

For wood coatings requiring high DOI, stain resistance and everyday wear protection, urethane acrylates such as CN2920 and CN991 offer an excellent balance of toughness, flexibility and hardness. Structured urethane acrylates (SUA) enhance scratch and burnish resistance while maintaining gloss stability. Specialty monomers like SR285 and SR454 further tune viscosity and reactivity for optimized furniture and joinery formulations.

LVT & engineered flooring

Luxury vinyl tile (LVT) and engineered flooring surfaces require exceptional abrasion resistance, scratch resistance and chemical durability while maintaining a controlled aesthetic finish. Sartomer® solutions enable highly durable, low-defect, fast-curing topcoats that reduce maintenance and extend product lifespan under heavy traffic and household use. Structured urethane acrylates (SUA) technology is particularly effective for flooring due to its ability to deliver high hardness and Taber resistance, better stain performance and improved gloss retention compared to standard UV urethane acrylates.

FOCUS ON

Excimer UV technology for ultra-matte and soft-touch wood surfaces

Sartomer® materials can extend UV-curing capabilities with excimer technology, enabling next-generation ultra-matte and soft-touch wood surfaces. Rather than relying on chemical matting, excimer creates controlled micro-roughness during curing to deliver deep matte finishes with anti-fingerprint properties and contemporary tactile aesthetics. This technology is particularly well suited for decorative panels, premium furniture, LVT and engineered surfaces where visual differentiation and sensory quality matter as much as resistance and cleanability. Sartomer® urethane acrylates allow formulators to tune flexibility, hardness and durability across substrates, while Orgasol® ultra-fine powders improve matte uniformity, burnish resistance and tactile comfort for a consistent premium finish. Examples of excimer-capable solutions include CN996 for flexible substrates, CN9301 for durable decorative panels and LVT, and CN9210 for hard furniture finishes.

Arkema is committed to offering premium solutions for wood coating finishes that provide superior protection and performance. Our innovative products not only enhance the aesthetics and performance of wood surfaces, but also contribute to a sustainable future.
