SAFER FOR WORKERS INDUSTRIAL PAINTS
The rheology challenge in high-solids coatings
As coatings move toward high-solids technologies, rheology becomes a critical enabler for both applicators and formulators. With less dilution and thicker paints, high-solids systems must still offer easy application, fast drying with less solvent, and the ability to build high film thickness for improved performance and process efficiency.
These requirements create new rheological challenges: preventing settling, ensuring strong shear-thinning for spray or brush application, and securing rapid viscosity recovery for sag resistance and good edge coverage. Arkema addresses these needs with its Crayvallac® rheology, flow and levelling additives, combined with deep rheology expertise and characterization across the full coating lifespan. By tailoring antisettling behavior, flow and viscosity recovery, Arkema helps paint makers optimize manufacturing, improve application consistency, and extend coating service life in high-solids formulations.
REMOVAL OF SUBSTANCES OF CONCERNS
Safer-for-workers resin alternatives for industrial coatings
Arkema offers multiple resin alternatives that enhance workers' safety during coating application and maintenance, including PU and non-isocyanate (NISO) technologies across solventborne, high-solids and waterborne systems. These solutions help reduce exposure to hazardous substances, lower VOC emissions and support compliance with tightening environmental standards, enabling safer and more sustainable protective, industrial, automotive and marine coatings.
MOVING TO WATERBORNE INDUSTRIAL PAINTS
Multi-purpose waterborne binder for industrial paints with reduced VOC levels
Synaqua® 9511 is a waterborne acrylic polyol emulsion designed to replace traditional solventborne polyols in industrial coatings with significantly lower VOC levels, helping manufacturers reduce harmful emissions in production and application. This binder supports demanding 2K PU and 1K stoving systems across multiple substrates—including metal, plastic, glass, wood and concrete—while maintaining durability, gloss, adhesion and chemical resistance. By enabling lower-VOC formulations with strong performance, Synaqua® 9511 contributes to safer working environments and better compliance with tightening air quality and occupational health expectations.
TMPTA substitution for food packaging
Under rising regulatory constraints and brand-owner expectations in food packaging, the industry is accelerating the substitution of TMPTA. Sartomer offers a comprehensive portfolio of low-migration alternatives that maintain curing speed and functional performance, including propoxylated, highly ethoxylated, and high-molecular-weight LED-curable grades specifically designed for indirect food-contact inks and coatings.
Low migration – new photocurable product developments for food packaging
In order to bring solutions answering the challenging indirect food contact application field, Arkema has pioneered a thorough low migration approach with photocurable products specifically designed for the formulation of UV curable inks and coatings, based on core pillars linked to raw material selection, differentiating product innovation, manufacturing process monitoring and superior quality control.
