A comprehensive powder coating resins portfolio: polyester and hybrid solutions
Arkema’s powder coating resins portfolio combines advanced polyester and polyester-epoxy hybrid chemistries to support a wide range of high-performance coating solutions for interior, industrial, architectural and exterior applications. Pure polyester resins deliver durable, flexible and corrosion-resistant finishes suitable for both interior and exterior environments, while polyester-epoxy hybrid resins offer balanced performance with enhanced adhesion and corrosion resistance, particularly on metal substrates. Engineered for solvent-free systems with efficient processing and long-lasting protection, these resins help formulators achieve reliable decorative and protective powder coatings across diverse end-use applications.
Polyester powder coatings
Polyester powder coatings are widely selected for exterior and outdoor applications where long-term weathering performance is required. These systems are typically based on polyester chemistries that deliver excellent UV stability, color and gloss retention, and strong resistance to environmental exposure.
Available in different types, including TGIC and TGIC-free options, polyester powder coatings are designed to meet demanding standards such as AAMA for architectural uses. They are commonly used for architectural profiles, metal building components, outdoor furniture and other applications requiring long service life and a high performance level.
Arkema offers a range of REAFREE® carboxylated and hydroxylated polyester resins with many different attributes. Pure polyesters from Arkema are ideal for both interior and exterior formulations, including industrial, architectural, superdurable and other coatings.
Based on specific formulation, they offer a combination of durability, flexibility, corrosion resistance and formulation latitude.

Hybrid powder coatings
Hybrid powder coating systems, combine polyester and epoxy chemistries to offer a balanced solution between performance, appearance and cost. Compared to polyester powder coatings, hybrid powder coating options are typically selected for interior applications where UV exposure is limited.
These systems provide good adhesion, smooth surface finish and reliable corrosion resistance, making them a common choice for office furniture, cabinets, indoor furniture and general industrial uses. Hybrid coatings offer controlled cure behavior and consistent film build, supporting efficient production while maintaining durability for interior environments.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Understanding powder coating technology
Powder coating is a solvent-free coating technology in which a fine powder is electrostatically charged and sprayed onto a grounded substrate, most commonly metal. After application, the coated part is heated, allowing the powder to melt, flow and chemically crosslink into a continuous and highly durable film.
This process eliminates drying time, reduces emissions and overspray waste, and supports efficient, high-throughput production. Powder coatings provide strong mechanical properties, long-term corrosion and weather resistance, and attractive finishes for a wide range of industrial and consumer applications.
Superdurable polyester powder coatings for long-lasting outdoor performance
Arkema’s superdurable polyester powder coating resins play a key role where long-term performance and outdoor durability are critical. Based on saturated carboxylated polyester chemistries, these resins are specifically formulated to deliver outstanding outdoor durability, excellent weather and corrosion resistance, high gloss and color retention, and improved formulation latitude for demanding markets such as architectural profiles, outdoor furniture and lighting, window and door trim, and agricultural and construction equipment.
Within this range, products like REAFREE® 5700, 5703 and 5707 provide variations in flow, flexibility and storage stability to support different formulation targets, from enhanced mechanical properties to superior surface quality. Their inherent superdurable design helps extend coating life and reduce lifetime environmental impact, aligning with sustainability objectives in exterior powder coating applications where both performance and longevity are required.
Sustainability, circularity and reduced carbon footprint
Powder coating technology has a long-standing track record in sustainability, with its foundations dating back to the 1950s and early industrial adoption beginning in the 1970s. As 100% solid systems, powder coatings contain no liquid and no solvent — not even water — and no hazardous volatile components, making them one of the most environmentally efficient coating technologies available today.
Arkema’s powder coating resins build on these inherent advantages while further advancing sustainability through the integration of recycled feedstocks such as rPET and mass balance–based approaches. These innovations help reduce carbon footprint without compromising durability, resistance, or long-term coating performance.
Low temperature cure powder coatings
To further lower environmental impact at the processing stage, Arkema develops powder solutions with optimized curing behavior. Low cure temperature powder resins, such as REAFREE® technologies, enable efficient curing at temperatures below 135–160 °C, while delivering significant energy savings, reduced CO₂ emissions, and improved production efficiency. These solutions maintain excellent coating quality, mechanical integrity, and aesthetic performance, while expanding processing options to thinner metal parts and heat-sensitive substrates using standard oven equipment. They support high-performance powder coatings across a wide range of applications including appliances, furniture, IT equipment, general industrial, architectural, agricultural, construction, and automotive markets.
More sustainable powder coating resins with recycled and mass balance feedstocks
Arkema’s powder coating resins enhance the sustainability of powder technology through the use of alternative feedstocks, including rPET from post-consumer waste and mass balance–based approaches that reduce dependence on fossil raw materials. These innovations enable the incorporation of up to 40% recycled content and can lower product carbon footprint by up to 20%, supporting circularity objectives without compromising performance or durability.
This commitment is reinforced by global ISCC PLUS certification across Arkema’s powder resin facilities, ensuring traceable integration of recycled and bio-attributed inputs throughout the value chain and across multiple industrial markets.
A new breakthrough is transforming the future of powder coating resins by enabling the use of up to 40% post-consumer recycled content from end-of-life packaging. This innovation empowers brands and manufacturers to elevate their sustainability commitments, meet growing market expectations, and sharply reduce their environmental impact — all while maintaining top-tier performance.
REAFREE® 6846 saturated carboxylated polyester is a 50:50 hybrid product used in formulating decorative and protective interior thermosetting powder coatings for metal substrates. It gives formulators the tools they need to significantly improve cost savings.

Frequently asked questions to our powder coating experts
Powder coating resins are solid polymer materials used in solvent-free powder coating formulations. Unlike liquid coating resins, they contain no solvent or water, eliminating VOC emissions during application and curing. Powder coatings also offer very high material utilization, with reclaim systems enabling application efficiencies above 98%.
Powder coatings are inherently sustainable due to their 100% solid formulation and absence of solvents. In addition, powder coating resins can incorporate recycled feedstocks such as rPET or be produced using mass balance–based approaches, helping reduce reliance on fossil resources. Certifications such as ISCC PLUS ensure traceability of recycled and bio-attributed inputs throughout the value chain.
Low temperature cure powder resins enable efficient curing at reduced oven temperatures, leading to lower energy consumption, reduced CO₂ emissions, and shorter production cycles. They also expand application possibilities to thinner metal parts and heat-sensitive substrates while maintaining coating quality and durability.
